The AFSPA project to stand up a foundation to provide aid to the families of Security Forces members killed in the line of duty is a reality. The Air Force Security Forces Foundation is a stand alone entity that is an affiliate of the Air Force Security Police Association. It is recognized as a non-profit corporation in the State of Texas and has been accepted by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) humanitarian and educational organization.
A distinguished group of individuals has accepted a place on the Foundation Board of Directors. All donations are fully tax deductible and should be sent to the same address as the Association: AFSFF, 818 Willow Creek Circle, San Marcos, TX 78666-5060. The Foundation is separate from the Wounded Warrior Fund which is a project of the Eagle Chapter.
Establishing such a foundation has been a special goal of many of our members since the earliest days of the Association. The initiative was put into motion when BGen Robert Holmes, while he was serving as the Director of Security Forces, approached us to follow the example of the Special Operations field which has such a foundation and provides scholarships for the children of special ops members killed on duty.
This is something I hope we can all get behind and support wholeheartedly. You will be seeing more about this initiative in Tiger Flight and on the website in the coming weeks and months. A Foundation website is under consruction at: www.securityforcesfoundation.com.
Graphic art work for the Foundation logo was done by AFSPA member CMSgt (Ret) Tom McDonald.

The Air Force Security Police Association is a world-wide organization of Security Force professionals with local chapters. Since its birth in 1986 it has been a significant factor in preserving and enhancing the honor and pride that are inherent in the security forces career field. Our membership spans generatons, encompassing the military policemen (air provost marshal) of World War II and continuing over the years to the men and women who are serving their first hitch today. Membership is open to anyone who has served honorably in the Army Air Corps MPs, USAF Air Police, Security Police, or is now serving in the Security Forces career field--or that component of the Air National Guard, Air Force Reserves, IMAs, or DoD police officers.
Since the formation of the United States Air Force in 1947 the Air Force Air Police/Security Police/Security Forces have defended Air Force bases and installations around the world.
Beginning with the Korean conflict, it became clear that the USAF needed the capability to defend its aircraft and other resources around the world. For the lack of this basic skill, bases were lost in the early days when the North Koreans invaded South Korea.
The Air Base Defense School was established at Parks AFB, California. Peacetime returned and the lessons were soon forgotten -- until 1965 when US airmen and aircraft once again came under attack, this time in Vietnam. The air police/security police were largely trained in the field but acquitted themselves well, maintaining the integrity of ten air bases until the USAF left Vietnam.
USAF Security Forces are charged with maintaining order and insuring the security of USAF resources around the world, including the majority of our nation's nuclear sites. In every conflict our Security Forces members have entered into the fray, defending the bases and/or other resources while at the same time maintaining law and order on the installations.
Yes, it's a proud heritage!
There is a distinctive relationship among the many men and women who have served or are serving in the Air Police, Security Police, or Security Forces career field. Some call it the Bond of the Blue Beret. Some of our more senior members can recall the days of the Sam Browne and the Air Police brassard. Whatever the tie, our members share a sense of responsibiliy for and a vision of the future of this career field.
We all understand the benefits to be derived from remembering the past while contributing to the future by belonging to and supporting this organization.
Our focus is on fulfilling what we consider to be the most important goals and objectives:
• Honoring the Past
• Recognizing the Present
• Preparing for the Future
Comaraderie. The bond of warriors of all generations ties the members of AFSPA together in a unique way. From Kimpo, Korea,to Kirkuk, Iraq, the Security Forces have served together to defend American resources against all enemies.
Support today's Security Forces. As the Air Force goes through major reorganizaion and the role of the Security Forces changes, we maintain a tremendous pride in the men and women who wear the beret today. They are performing duties that earlier generations never dreamed would be a role for the force. The equipment and training are the best in the world. The demands put on the troops by the ops tempo place pressure on them and their families unlike any before. AFSPA takes seriously our responsibiity to give a helping hand wherever we can.
Our heritage. We feel obligated to capture the history of the career field for those who will come after us. An ongoing project has been a major research effort to produce a definitive history of the career field. This has been serialized in Tiger Flight. Many members consider this a most important part of AFSPA.
